Remember these important points:
- We recommend Benadryl® for temporary and partial relief of common cold symptoms and allergies in children older than 6 months.
- Any child who is having a severe allergic reaction (for example: widespread hives, wheezing, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, or other severe symptoms) should seek medical attention immediately.
- Benadryl® usually causes sedation, but some children may become anxious or excited while taking it. Either type of reaction is a normal side‐effect of the medication.
The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend the use of Benadryl under six (6) months of age.
