Ears & Eyes

← Newborn Child

Do not insert anything into the ear canals that is smaller than your elbow. Use a damp cloth or large cotton swab to clean the outer ear.The eyes may have a small amount of yellowish discharge which is often present in newborns. This may be removed with a cotton ball or soft washcloth moistened with water. It is common for babies to have blocked tear ducts. If you notice excessive tearing and matting of one or both eyes, gently massage the inner corner of your baby’s lower eyelid near his nose in a downward motion. If the discharge persists or the eyeballs look red and inflamed, you should call the office.
