- Give your baby a sponge bath with warm water until the umbilical cord remnant has fallen off and the site has completely healed.
- To wash the baby, use water, a bar of mild moisturizing soap or liquid baby soap except on the face where no soap of any kind is needed.
- Keep your baby supported in the bath with your fingers under the arm pit and your thumb around the shoulder.
- Use water squeezed from the wash cloth to rinse the hair after shampooing.
- When washing a girl’s genitals, remember to always wash from front to back. Water only- no soap.
- Dry the baby thoroughly after the bath.
- No lotions or oils are needed for the baby.
- Usually no more than one bath is needed per day.
